How We Chose the Best Websites for Solar Companies
The first thing that is important for any website in any industry is that it has to work properly. It is amazing how many websites are not mobile-friendly (responsive). This is amazing. It is even more disappointing in an industry like solar which hasn’t been around as long as many other industries. The websites should be newer and should reflect the high-tech nature of how the general public views solar energy. Old-style websites just won’t cut it in solar industry. We want “cool”. We want interactive features, viseo, great photos, and plenty of good information to help people understand the product and the process.
We were able to find many solar websites that achieved all of our criteria and more. Here they are:
Detailed Descriptions of the Best Solar Energy Websites
Full disclosure, we love Tesla. That being said, their photography is beautiful and the typography is perfect. We absolutely loved the video demo halfway down the page. Simple but beautiful design with ah easy-to-understand message is always a bog winner with us.
Taking the top 2 spots in a category has NEVER happened before … until now. Tesla nailed it again with beautiful product photography and great use of fonts. However this website takes the #2 spot because of the easy to use but powerful tool in the middle of the page – that takes an otherwise boring topic and makes it cool.
This solar website uses great illustration to capture the users attention. They also include all of the key elements like social proof (endorsement ndges, testimonials, awards, etc.). The site has just enough information to be useful without being overbearing.
This is a beautiful solar website with great photos, illustrations and plenty of information. We love the “solar stories” towards the middle of the home page.
This website has all of the elements to make it a top contender in the solar energy field. There is a great video, great photos, plenty of useful information and they did a good job of organizing the information.
#6 Power Home
PowerHome Solar’s website has all the features you’d want to see in a professionally developed website. In addition to great design they have a strong American message that we fully appreciate and support.
This website is fairly representative of a number of other solar energy websites we found. Drone video with a few great photos and typical options for residential solar or commercial solar – it’s an approach we saw many times in many other websites. These guys just did it a little bit better than most.
#8 Nerd Power
A few great photos and a couple of clever ideas can go a long way when designing a solar energy website. These guys did a good job of creating a memorable theme and message.
The website loaded slowly for us a couple of times and the animation at the top of the screen didn’t load at all once or twice. Too bad … it’s kind of cool. It’s definitely hitting the REFRESH button for. Don’t miss it. Anyway the website uses some great imagery but is very lean on useful information or we would have ranked it higher.
#10 SolSystems
This website is definitely worthy of a top 10 spot in our design list. Great visuals, great information. Well organized. This is a solid example of a well-designed solar energy website.
The rest of the field:
The remaining solar energy websites are all solid contenders. Our team was looking for websites that were attractive, had a good amount of information, and stood out from the competition.
Did We Miss Any?
Sure we did. If there are any solar websites that you have seen that should be on our list, let us know about it!
