An Overview of Ocean City Websites
Ocean City represents one of the strongest South Jersey towns for website design quality as well as their attention to online marketing. Unlike many of their neighboring communities, Ocean City businesses have made huge improvements over the past couple of years.
Strangely, despite a huge real estate market in a town with TONS of money to be made from sales as well as from rentals, none of the real estate companies on the island seem to be paying attention to their websites. Eventually, someone will figure it out and it may start an “online arms race.” Today is not that day.
Analyzing the Website Marketing Opportunity
We analyzed data from over 100 Ocean City websites to create a competitive profile of how difficult it is for a company to rank in the top 10 in Google for local searches. Because the #1 indicator for online success is how much visibility your website gets on Google search engine result pages (SERP’s), we are focusing on this specific aspect to rate the relative difficulty of Ocean City New Jersey as it relates to other New Jersey towns, as well as to the national average.
This article is NOT intended to be a white paper of detailed statistical analysis. We did collect and analyze the necessary information and have created such a document. That being said, we have created a high-level summary and simplified our reporting for the purposes of this blog post.
Below are the DOMAIN AUTHORITY scores necessary to rank in the TOP 10 in their “local market”
|New Jersey Average||53|
|Cape May County Average||20|
|Ocean City Average||36|
Conclusion: Ocean City is the strongest town within 30 miles for quality websites and strong web marketing campaigns … but they still have plenty of room to improve.

Best Websites in Ocean City New Jersey
Top marks go to great looking websites that have useful information AND are doing the types of things that make them attractive to Google, while also providing a positive user experience. We are happy to say we found several excellent examples.
1. Hula Restaurant and Sauce Company
Ocean City Boardwalk
Their website is almost as good as their food, which is simply spectacular. The photos are high-quality and the design is imaginative. There are many “extra” details on the sub-pages and the site is organized well. The blog and the recipes sections are surprisingly deep and interesting. The way they are handling their Yelp reviews is unique and effective.
2. James Candy
Ocean City Boardwalk
Perfection. Honestly. The site perfectly captures the look and feel of the company. Every detail of the site is fantastic. The shopping cart is seamless. Bravo!
3. Jilly’s Stores
Ocean City Boardwalk
It’s not easy to take 5 different businesses- some of them with multiple locations- and wrap it all up into 1 site. For that reason alone, we are giving Jilly’s the nod for our #3 spot in Ocean City. The site is solid and reasonably attractive. They did a very nice job with photos.
The Bad: The site is VERY shallow in information in some places and the page layouts couldn’t be more blocky if you were playing TETRIS.
4. Biscayne Suites
Ocean City, NJ
They used a great color palette (a traditional beachy/ocean blue, yellow, tan) to represent the Ocean City lifestyle and experience. They added a few very good photos, clean design, and well-presented information. Nice job.
The Bad: This is VERY nit-picky, but the gallery, the rates, the specials, etc. are presented with no additional technology, features, or programming which would have made this site not just good, but spectacular.
5. Johnson’s Popcorn
Ocean City Boardwalk
What is there to say? I’m here for 1 reason only: to buy delicious popcorn. The site makes it easy. It looks great and it works as it is supposed to.
Worst Websites in Ocean City New Jersey
Choosing the worst websites in a town is a lot of fun. It’s like watching a bloopers show. Ocean City New Jersey didn’t disappoint. While the good sites in town are excellent, the bad ones are truly entertaining!
The number one spot in our countdown took the title “running away.” There was simply no way that we were going to be able to find a site worse than this. I am officially entering in it in our “Worst Website in New Jersey” contest. Come on, you can’t really be serious with this thing!
Some things just don’t require a true analysis. I especially love their dog-friendly icon. Sorry guys… it looks like it’s a family-owned business and we do love those, but you need to do better than this!
Not only is this site terrible, but I have spotted something that literally stopped me in my tracks. Almost 15 years ago, I used to take a lot of pictures in Ocean City and use for some of our clients’ websites. These guys have 2 photos on their website that I personally took, and have never shared to be used as stock photos! I recognized the photos instantly. Wow … I don’t know whether to be pissed, to be flattered, or to feel sorry for them that the best part of their site is my scrap heap from 15 years ago.
Yea, I know- it’s only a beach chair and umbrella rental place. But does it have to suck? Whatever happened to the old mantra, “seek excellence in EVERYTHING you do?” This website really, really stinks.
Is it just a coincidence, or does one of JSE’s websites end up on every town’s “Worst Websites” list? I swear we’re not picking on them … I only look at who did the work AFTER we have already selected the distinguished “winners”. Take a look at some of the sub-pages to see exactly how bad this website REALLY is.
Web Designers in Ocean City New Jersey
Below is a profile of each website design company in Ocean City New Jersey (physical address is listed as Ocean City) or any web company who serves multiple businesses within Ocean City.
|Website Design Companies Located in Ocean City New Jersey|
DotCom Global Media
|DotCom has roughly 20 full-time employees and is a full-service website design and internet marketing agency. They have been in business since 1995. DotCom works with dozens of clients in Somers Point and the surrounding area. Of particular note is their national and international client list working with companies like Nike, Disney, and the New York Yankees just to name a few. They have won numerous awards and have a stellar reputation. In October 2016, the founder was honored to be selected to speak at the #1 rated small business conference in the U.S. (Forbes and Inc. Magazine). This is clearly the top website design company in the entire region.|
|Evolve appears to be a small collection of independent contractors and service providers. It appears they’ve been in business for over 10 years and they serve mostly local clients. Their work is solid.|
JSE Design Studio
|JSE has been creating poor to mediocre websites for a painfully long time. Frankly, we are surprised they still make websites. They are mostly known for their Point-Of-Sale systems and other types of technical support -which we understand is much better than their website design.|
Web Designers in Ocean City New Jersey leave some room to grow
Ocean City New Jersey businesses have come a long way in the past few years. Overall, website quality has gone way up while their online marketing and SEO initiatives have also clearly improved.
If you are a new (or existing) business who is looking to launch a new website to stand out in the crowded online space (for Google ranking, traffic, etc.), you are going to find some stiff competition that is not going to be easy to beat. Don’t fall for a mediocre web design company, unless you want your site to end up on someone’s worst list in the future.
