Analyzing the current business environment and growth opportunities in Cherry Hill New Jersey

Cherry Hill is a booming part of southern New Jersey. In the center of this South Jersey town is the Cherry Hill Mall, complete with a plethora of nearby shops and upscale dining options. This area is very built up but offers plenty of residential spaces. Cherry Hill’s population is predominantly made up of white collar working class residents, and the median age is around 40 years. Half of Cherry Hill’s residents are married and have a Bachelor’s degree or higher.

This area in particular is very tech-forward and a quick online search shows just how many local businesses offer digital marketing, mobile device repair, and other computer-related services. The local chamber of commerce website listed 15 tech companies in this area alone. Based on the demographics and the concentration on technology, it was surprising to find only three websites worthy of listing on the “Best Examples of Website Design.” Why don’t the tech-focused companies have solid websites with modern features and up-to-date content? The design and functionality are equally disappointing for most of the websites included in this analysis.

Unfortunately, most of the Cherry Hill NJ business websites are a poor representation of the high quality products and services offered there. What many people don’t realize is that just having a website online is not enough, and often poorly designed websites hurt the image of the business. If you want to open a business or grow an existing company in Cherry Hill NJ, make website design and digital marketing a priority right away!

Best Examples of Cherry Hill NJ Website Design

In addition to the most obvious features, there are many little things that make a website design great and effective. Top marks go to beautiful websites that have useful information AND are doing the types of things that make them attractive to Google, while also providing a positive user experience. Through our search, we came across  some good and bad local examples of Cherry Hill New Jersey websites. Here’s what we found:

1. Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club – https://chhrc.com/  CHHRC Cherry Hill NJ Website Design

The website is modern and works as expected.  It is clean and professional.  If this was an attorney, a doctors office, or an accountant – it would have received a higher score.  However, this is a health center.  This is a place where kids and adults go for fitness, for health, for activity and fun.  They completely missed the “energy”.  The biggest shortfall is in the photos.  Somewhere along the line, it appears they have forgotten rule #1 in exercise marketing.  It is not about the pushups … it is about the body you get from the pushups.  Taking it even further … it’s about the better life you will have because of the better body because of the pushups.  They are showing empty fitness rooms, a collection of cardio equipment and an empty “Fun Zone” for kids.  Where is the life?  Where is the experience, the energy, and the personal connection?  Big miss there.  As far as the rest of the site … solidly average.  Nothing wrong, nothing great.  A little inspiration and talent could make this site great.  As it is right now, it’s average, despite being one of the best of the websites we found in Cherry Hill NJ.

The site is clean and has only a couple of very minor display errors.  This company / website is demonstrating a level of quality and excellence that would make me comfortable to give them a try.  Because I am a professional web designer, I instantly recognized a number of stock photos that were used in the website – which seems unnecessary to me.  I am certain they could have easily acquired their own great original photos.  I am not sure the average person would know these are stock, however, so I don’t know how serious this really is in this case.  The information is fairly deep and their blog appears to have a new article posted roughly 2 to 3 times per month – so they are getting the job done there pretty well.  There was a weak attempt to make the sub-pages a bit more interesting but they didn’t go far enough.  I would recommend more photos, put information into columns more often, more bullet lists, more icons, and a whole host of ways to make the content appear more visually interesting.  The more interesting something looks, the more likely the website visitor is to actually read it.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell where the website template ends and the designer begins.  This website (like many others) is built using an off-the-shelf WordPress theme.  Wherever the template was used as-is, it looks pretty good.  However, wherever the designer (or whoever maintains the website) has gotten involved and uploaded their own photos or their own information, the website looks pretty bad.  This is most obvious when comparing the CULTURE page (this was used as-is so it looks pretty good) and the ABOUT US page (the nav is almost impossible to see … and where did that green text come from?!) or the Meet the Team Page ( a simplistic, inefficient layout that is needlessly boring and longs scrolling).  They took the time to get a number of great team photos, for that we commend you!  The designer of the website failed to include social proof completely, big miss there.  Also, as we have said time and time again when reviewing websites from all around New Jersey, simply listing your website icons on the bottom of the website is NOT social media integration!  One additional note to the Invictus folks … which is actually kind of funny to me since they are “sales specialists” … this site is all about you, who you are, what you do, …  where is the focus on the client?  If you read the headlines, sometimes it sounds as if they are talking about client benefits … however, only one sentence into each section, they have squarely shifted the focus back on to themselves.  A special note to all Hammonton NJ businesses (and to all NJ website designers out there); “Focus on the needs of your clients”!

High Potential Examples of Cherry Hill NJ Website Design

There are a lot of websites that kind of fall in the middle. They’re not great, but they could be worse. Most of these “high potential” website design examples are placed in this category because they scored low on our evaluation, but the businesses themselves are so great that we see a huge opportunity for success. Here are the local websites we found that don’t stand on their own yet, but could be absolutely killer if they made the right moves.

4. Alloy Silverstein – https://alloysilverstein.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade C

  • The pages are full of content, so there is no shortage of information here.
  • Imagery is very subtle on this website, used primarily as a transparent background. They should rethink the lack of photos, especially at the top of the page where a hero image is usually placed to set the tone for the business site.
  • This website doesn’t feel generic at all like so, so, so many others we see. The design is clean and consistent.
  • The site loads on a mobile device, which is good, but it’s tough to use.

5. Professional Safety Training Services – http://www.psts.com/index.htm

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • Ugh, this is a terrible website to look at. Not at all helping the business. It looks very outdated and not at all focused on branding.
  • We found a wealth of information through the pages of this website. The layout is pretty organized.
  • These photos suck. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. The photos need to go.
  • Eek, there’s sadly no mobile version of this website. That’s a big no-no.

6. Cherry Hill Mall – https://cherryhillmall.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade C

  • This website loads quickly, in a methodical order, which is absolutely great.
  • Great for browsing on the go, this site is mobile optimized and works well.
  • No outbound links, even for the stores in the directory. This site isn’t very helpful outside of offering basic information about the mall itself and onsite events.
  • Where is the branding? It’s odd for a website for such a big business to be so generic. The logo doesn’t even look like a logo.

7. Elton Bike Shop – http://www.erltonbike.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • This website design is very mediocre- it looks like a quick, homemade site using a generic template.
  • There’s a cool resources page called “rides” but none of the information is current. A shame.
  • What is the Call To Action? There are no “next steps” for the visitor to take.
  • A professional photographer would make a world of difference here.

8. Ronald J. Cappuccio, JD, LLM – http://www.taxesq.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade C

  • This homepage is like a punch in the face. Way too much crowding and confusion in terms of the layout.
  • Someone clearly took their time to write up the content for these web pages. Shows great authority
  • There are no original photos here, not even a headshot of the lawyer. This website really needs some great imagery to balance out all of this content. Even a few stock photos could help.
  • Some of the pages are totally blank, which is a bad look. They should remove the menu option if the page isn’t ready to display. Lots of rookie mistakes here, which brings down the professional image of the site.

9. Tech Please – http://www.techplease.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade B

  • This website is tricky to grade. The design itself is really sharp- but it looks like someone messed it up over time. In several places, the alignment of icons and text is way off. The branding however is great throughout the site.
  • These guys had the right idea with their onsite blog, even including outbound links and keyword optimized content, but it looks like they abandoned the strategy a year ago. That’s a shame because content marketing is key.
  • On the homepage, there’s a lot going on and it’s tough to find a call to action. It’s not clear what this business actually does, despite all of the cool icons and blurbs of info. They need to clarity to draw first time visitors in.

10. Morton and Rudolph Jewelers – http://www.mortonandrudolph.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade C

  • This jewelry store website is leaps and bounds above the other ones in Cherry Hill NJ, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement considering the luxury brands they carry and the fierce competition in Marlton and Philadelphia.
  • The branding is lacking throughout the site- it looks like a template with a generic blue accent color. This website needs a new direction to fit the image of the company.
  • Great job with the product images and descriptions. It’s well organized and easy to find everything. Only problem is many of the products are out of stock, and these items should be pushed towards the bottom of page results instead of the top.
  • Where is the content marketing and consumer education? There isn’t a blog or a jewelry glossery, or other resources section. There’s a lot of pre-purchase research that happens in this industry, and Morton and Rudolph Jewelers is neglecting to answer the call with this website. Tons of potential here, just nothing in the works from what we can tell.

11. The Philadelphia Small Business Law Center – http://www.phillysmallbusinesslawcenter.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade C

  • This website design is clean and effective overall. It’s visually pleasing, has a good balance of content and images, and social proof is right on the homepage.
  • There were minor loading issues on first try, but it caught up eventually.
  • Great resources and high value content on-page, but the blog is another story. The most recent post is two years old, and there are virtually no images with alt tags or strategic keywords or outbound links in the posts to make them effective.
  • This site shows a few rookie mistakes were made in the footer and the menu. A touch up would go a long way for this website and the blog. Otherwise, it’s a great resource and helpful go-to for prospective clients.

12. Managed Computer Solutions – http://mcs2fix.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • Here’s a perfect example of a tech-focused business with a sub-standard website. It’s so easy to fix alignment issues but the whole page looks sloppy when you don’t.
  • The menu and pages are organized but there isn’t much to this site. The bare minimum as far as content goes.
  • This site has a blog hidden in the footer, but it’s a mess. The post at the top is a placeholder text from WordPress and there are elements that only appear when you hover. Ditch the blog or manage it properly, would be our suggestion.

13. Halo Health – http://www.haloheals.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • This homepage feels just like an infomercial, with too much CAPS in the text, buttons that are way too big, and wording that is very salesy. It’s screaming at you as soon as you arrive. It’s a turn off immediately.
  • Clearly the site is built on a template that’s old-fashioned. It doesn’t feel modern and lacks the basic elements that we expect to see on new websites. This one seems to be updated, but the design could really use an overhaul.
  • Great to see an updated blog on this website. Again, the design is super old and not easy to read. We’d make a ton of changes to bring this blog up to speed and make it an effective marketing tool, but the author certainly can’t be blamed. The content is on point and current.
  • There is a photo on the homepage that’s low resolution and another that’s out of focus. A professional photographer would be a wise investment- or, at least better stock images.

14. Diversified Commercial Lending Solutions Group – http://dclginc.com

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • While the design is nothing special, the messaging is clear right away and there is a call to action right on the homepage.
  • The written content needs works. There are a few typos at a glance, and there doesn’t seem to be any though given to keyword optimization here. I bet the organic search traffic to this site is very low.
  • The photos on this site aren’t great. Some are stock photos but others are low quality original shots.
  • Having a testimonials page is excellent, but these don’t link to a reviews site or have any deeper info pointing to the author who wrote the testimonials. Many businesses display testimonials this way but it doesn’t do much to impress a first visitor.time

15. Minutemen Press – http://www.cherryhill.minutemanpress.com

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • This is a clean homepage, nice colors and consistent with branding, but there is no hero image to pull you in.
  • The organization of content is not well thought out. The boring News Center (blog) section is wasting valuable space on the homepage. We’re judging this site even more harshly because they offer design and marketing services, so they should be on the best list instead of halfway down the high potential sites list. (just saying!)
  • It’s good to see an up to date blog. Great content, fun images. No links. No categories or tags. It needs work.
  • This site is mobile-friendly and fully responsive. Big high five for that. Not only helpful for the user experience but also for website authority and search engine ranking.

16. Three Suit Studios – https://www.threesuit.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • Again, this site is a great start compared to most of the others in Cherry Hill NJ, but since they’re offering WEBSITE DESIGN services, we’re judging them harshly for getting stuck on this list at all. Their website should be worth showing as a best example up above, not down here!
  • The homepage is not well thought at. The CTA at the top shouldn’t be “hire us” when they’ve yet to give information or compelling reason to do so. There’s also a COMING SOON area, on the homepage which is completely unnecessary for a web design company. Just get rid of that section and put it back when your content is ready to publish…
  • Worst of all is the page called Current Projects. I expecting to find a portfolio of work displayed. Instead, I found a preview of one project that’s in the making, a game, that has yet to be developed. This team must be brand new to the industry. It’s too early to publish this page. They need to get a few projects under their belts.
  • Based on the blog on this website and the grammatical errors and incomplete sentences , I wouldn’t hire these guys to do content marketing or promotional content for me, no matter what they have listed on their services page. This website could be a home run one day, but right now it’s far from it.

17. Auletto Roofing – http://www.aulettoroofing.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • Homepage is not bad. It’s a basic layout and simple menu but easy to see what this business does and easy to navigate.
  • The imagery is lacking – they should have a portfolio to show work they’ve completed for local customers.
  • The web pages are very light on written content. It’s abundantly clear on the Services page where you can click to read more and only two additional lines of text pop up. They should provide much more detail, especially on this page.
  • The site is somewhat responsive to mobile devices but there are some loading issues that will negatively impact the user experience.

18. Jeffrey Charles Jewelry – http://www.jeffreycharles.jewelershowcase.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade D

  • This website is an eyesore and doesn’t do this luxury jewelry store justice. It’s the worst website design they could have used for a business like this especially. Horrible colors and fonts and a terrible layout makes this business and products look cheap.
  • What saves this site from going on the worst list is the depth of content. This site has potential to be an awesome marketing tool and sales platform but the content needs some TLC and the format needs a complete overhaul.
  • Where is the content marketing and consumer education? There isn’t a blog or a jewelry glossery, or other resources section. Adding valuable written content to this site would be a big step in the right direction.

Worst Examples of Cherry Hill NJ Website Design

Choosing the worst websites in a town like this is painful. As a web designer in the Cherry Hill NJ area, I’ve seen these types of mistakes over and over that are wreaking havoc on these businesses and killing their SERP ranking. Some of these websites are so terrible that I’m assuming they came free and ready-made with a domain purchase. The mistakes are numerous and easy to avoid if you’re a web designer who know’s what you’re doing.

19. Several Properties Group – https://www.severalpropertiesgroup.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Homepage and the rest of the webpages are lacking! The images are tiny, the words are clumped together in boring paragraphs and there is no compelling call to action.
  • This website does nothing for the business it represents. It looks like a fly by night company- no logo, generic template, only one property for sale and nothing to help education or target a customer.
  • No social media links- Either they don’t use it, or they forgot to add them.
  • The website isn’t helping anyone on the go- no mobile friendly options 🙁

20. TamboWeb Design – http://www.tamboweb.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Another company offering web design services when their own website stinks. Where do we begin?
  • Do these guys know that Google penalizes sites that aren’t mobile friendly?
  • Everything is terms of design and elements on this website screams 1990. It’s old and irrelevant, down to the clip art.
  • There is a Blog listed in the menu, but it’s not onsite and it’s not clickable. So where’s the blog? What a mess.

21. Laurel Video – http://www.laurelvideo.net/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • This is not a website, it’s a webpage. And a terrible one, at that.
  • I can’t tell if this business is still in service. There is literally nothing here.
  • The one photo on here is not even a good one. It’s very tacky.
  • The only interactive feature is the clickable phone number to make it easy to call from a mobile device. But what are the chances someone would bother calling, based on what we see here? Bare bones, awful design.

22. Selby Associates –  http://www.businessbrokersnj.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • There are overlapping elements and messed up fields right on the Homepage.
  • Nothing compelling and no call to action besides “contact us.”
  • It’s a very outdated design. I’m surprised to see that it’s mobile friendly, but that’s a good thing.
  • The photos are not a good fit for the content. It’s a random collection of stock images. Not professional.

23. Visual Expressions – http://visualexpressions.000webhostapp.com/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Another failed example of a tech-focused company. The homepage says that this site is under construction but honestly, the current version should never have been published in the first place because it looks amateurish.
  • Everyone knows a mobile-friendly site is a MUST, but this one doesn’t work on a smart phone.
  • This black border looks like a business card design instead of an interactive website. The fonts and colors are very childlike. Nothing about this site says professional graphic design and stationary, despite the claims.

24. William W. Harmer Realty – http://www.harmerrealty.net/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Here’s another site that looks like it was launched a decade or two ago, and wasn’t bad at the time but needs to be upgraded ASAP. Very light on content, very mediocre design, no compelling imagery, no valuable resources.
  • There are no outbound links, not even on the past and present clients page.
  • This is one website that need major work both on the design and SEO.
  • It’s not even mobile-friendly.

25. R3 Consulting –  http://www.r3consulting.net/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Another tech company with a failing grade on their own website. Not good.
  • This web design is archaic, and the functionality is even a problem. When you click to a page, you can’t see the menu or logo and can’t navigate back to the homepage.
  • Also not mobile friendly.
  • It’s hard to know whether this company is in business with such an outdated site. Nothing shows that’s it’s been updated lately and that the content is current.

26. Fisher’s Appliance Repair –  http://fishersappliancerepair.com/service-area/appliance-repair-cherry-hill-nj/

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Homepage is cluttered, overwhelming, and it doesn’t pull you in. Too many things thrown onto one page.
  • Visually speaking, the design isn’t pretty either. It looks like a generic template with copy/paste info on it. Not much helpful info and not well organized.
  • The video element was a good effort, but the display is all wrong. Way too small, and shouldn’t go on autoplay with the audio blasting. User experience surveys show again and again that people do not respond well to this.

27. Business Solutions Enterprises – http://www.businesscostsreduction.com/HomePage.html

Cherry Hill NJ Website Design Grade F

  • This is such an old website design, proven by the ancient GoDaddy logo in the footer. It was probably self-generated fifteen years ago and never updated since.
  • Awful choice of imagery.
  • No clear Call To Action or next steps.
  • Nothing compelling to draw a visitor in or capture their interest. It just falls flat.

Directory of local Web Designers serving Cherry Hill NJ

Below is a profile of each website designer in Cherry Hill New Jersey (physical address is listed as Cherry Hill) or web company who is known for their Cherry Hill NJ website design work.

Website Designers in Cherry Hill New Jersey

DotCom Global Media

http://www.dotcomglobalmedia.com/

DotCom has roughly 20 full-time employees and is a full-service website design and internet marketing agency.  They have been in business since 1995.  DotCom works with dozens of clients in Somers Point and the surrounding area.  Of particular note is their national and international client list working with companies like Nike, Disney, and the New York Yankees just to name a few.  They have won numerous awards and have a stellar reputation.  In October 2016, the founder was honored to be selected to speak at the #1 rated small business conference in the U.S. (Forbes and Inc. Magazine).  This is clearly the top website design company in the entire region.

Evolve Studios

www.evolvestudios.com/

Evolve appears to be a small collection of independent contractors and service providers.  It appears they’ve been in business for over 10 years and they serve mostly local clients.  Their work is solid.

JSE Design Studio

http://www.new-jersey-webdesign.net/

JSE has been creating poor to mediocre websites for a painfully long time.  Frankly, we are surprised they still make websites.  They are mostly known for their Point-Of-Sale systems and other types of technical support -which we understand is much better than their website design.

Townsquare Media

http://www.townsquaremedia.com

Townsquare Media is well positioned thanks to their affiliation with the local radio industry. While the name is familiar with businesses in South Jersey, Townsquare Media is more infamous than famous. Their website designs are stock layouts and the SEO and digital marketing services they offer seem to lack a customized strategic approach. We have only heard bad things about this web design/marketing company. You could get the same quality for much less money with those starter packages that come cheap with a domain name purchase.

While there is no shortage of business activity in Cherry Hill NJ, companies actively operating in this town are lacking in the area of effective web presence. This is a missed opportunity both for businesses and for potential customers. Most Cherry Hill NJ websites are poorly designed, and worse- they’re virtually impossible to find through online search.

To up your chances for success, get your Cherry Hill NJ website design set up the right way on the right platform, with an approach that draws targeted traffic. A beautiful website that’s supported with smart tools and a digital marketing strategy will drastically help your local NJ-based business to thrive.
