Analyzing the current business environment and growth opportunities in Brigantine New Jersey

Brigantine NJ is a beach town at the Jersey Shore, close to the better known town of Atlantic City. In 2014, the population in Brigantine NJ was recorded at just under 10,000 people but that number skyrockets in May, June, July, and August as summer guests and vacationers flock to the beautiful island for some sand and sun.

Brigantine is a bustling island and loved by people young and old, especially in the summer months. There is a 18-hole Scottish golf course called The Brigantine Links, a favorite surfer beach called The Jetty, and a famous stretch of beach called The Cove where festive gatherings are commonplace.

Unfortunately, all but ONE of the Brigantine NJ business websites are a poor representation of the products and services offered there. What many people don’t realize is that just having a website online is not enough, and often poorly designed websites hurt the image of the business. If you want to open a business or grow an existing company in Brigantine NJ, make website design and digital marketing a priority right away!

Best Examples of Brigantine NJ Website Design

Out of ALL of the local business websites currently found in Brigantine NJ, there is only ONE website that doesn’t get a failing grade. This is extraordinarily alarming. When even the best websites we can find in a town earn scores of straight F’s across the board in every category, there is a problem.  We are used to seeing poor-quality websites in the resort towns of New Jersey (and other states).  It’s the nature of the business I suppose.  Perhaps the business owners feel they don’t make enough money to build a quality website.  On the other hand, perhaps they don’t have enough money because they have such poor websites?  Just a thought.

Here are the best examples of Brigantine NJ Website Design, despite only the first one getting a passing grade:

1. Jeffrey R. Delson, DDS, PA –  http://www.jeffdelsondds.com/Brigantine NJ Website Design- Jeffrey Delson Homepage

Numerical Score: 75/100

Design Grade……… C

Authority Grade…… D

This site is well designed and professional.  There are plenty of very good photos and lots of useful information.  The site should serve the customers of Jeff Delson very well.  I can’t say I’m a fan of how they handled the menu, but again, the site is solid and the rest of the websites in Brigantine are so awful I have to cut this website a little additional slack.

Now for a bit of bad news for Dr. Delson, this website is a template website provided by Officite.  They specialize in websites for medical practices.  As such, they do a very good job for local companies on the PUBLIC side of things.  However, all of the photos and content is duplicated for dozens, perhaps even hundreds of other websites across the country.  As such, Google will heavily penalize this website for containing duplicate content.  That is a very bad thing.  Ultimately, this will hurt your ability to attract new website traffic.  What makes it worse is that it is clear to me that Dr. Delson is paying them not only for the website but for online marketing as well.  Look at the blog – this is not unique to Brigantine, this same content is posted to websites all over the country.  Dr. Delson is paying extra to be penalized by Google.  If anyone knows Dr. Delson – they should tell him to read this article!  He  is wasting his money!Brigantine NJ Website Design - Jeff Delson DDS Homepage

2. Primal Surf – http://www.psurf.com

This website scored very poorly because it is missing a number of important items.  It’s not the worst website we’ve ever seen.  It is on the “best” list after all.  Here are just a few really obvious items that could drastically improve this website with not a lot of effort.  First, we need to get a professional photographer out here to take some great photos.  It’s so easy for a surf shop!  Second, let’s get that blog updated.  The last article is from May of 2015.  That’s just embarrassing.   Let’s get some testimonials on the home page to let everyone know you’ve actually had satisfied customers in the past.  The ABOUT US page is like 4 sentences long with a small photo.  Let’s take some pride of ownership and put a little effort into this thing!  There are several “pro tips” we would like to make but the website looks like it was made by the owner’s kids or something.  Hire a professional web designer.  I’m sure it’ll make a big difference.

On the bright side, the site is clean and without errors.  However, the site is not responsive so it doesn’t work very well with mobile devices.  The site is missing all forms of social proof.  No testimonials, no ratings, no logos of certifications or partners.  The site simply falls flat.  An excellent example of this is on the WHY KENNY’S page.  The information they cite is actually fairly compelling.  I’m not sure why they chose to “hide” that fact.  Let’s get some icons next to each item, a short list with check marks or something to give these points some power and create some visual interest.  I don’t know if every auto center offers these types of guarantees and service … but it strikes me they may be a differentiator, yet they hid them in 2 short, boring sentences.  The website is lacking all of the key elements Google is looking for to rank a website.  If they have competitors in Brigantine, they are definitely going to want to address this issue.

The fundamental thing we need to know when we “find” a website online is to understand “what this website is”.  I thought this was a website for an Italian Restaurant.  I realized quickly that it wasn’t … but then, what is it?  Is it an Italian market?  Then I read the first sentence “Imagine yourself savoring a leisurely Italian Meal …”.  Oh, wait … it IS an Italian restaurant! … umm no.  What I do know for sure is that it is just a short drive from Atlantic City and Egg Harbor Township.  Very poor messaging!  <sigh>  do I rip everything? … or do I just point out the most obvious issues?  I don’t want to be mean … but seriously?  I hope they didn’t pay for this hot mess.  Oh … ha!  It’s Town Square Media!  I should have known.  It’s really not worth listing all the issues or even the most obvious issues.  The site is weak in every way.  Sadly, it is still better than most of the websites in Brigantine.   : – (

High Potential Examples of Brigantine NJ Website Design

There are a lot of websites that kind of fall in the middle. The quality of website design is not good, but could be worse. Most of these “high potential” website design examples are placed in this category because they scored low on our evaluation, but the businesses themselves are so awesome that we see a huge opportunity. Here are the websites that we found in Brigantine that don’t stand on their own yet, but would be absolutely killer if they made the right moves.

5. Ernest and Son – http://www.ernestandson.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Everything matches back to the branding, and the website feels original.
  • Extra points awarded to this site for being mobile optimized.
  • On the other hand, this website lacks depth. There’s nothing to it, beyond a long homepage with an extremely basic menu. There’s so much more they could do with this website- it hurts to see a primitive website design tied to such a popular deli spot in Brig.
  • Where is the Call To Action? There are no “next steps” for the visitor to take. This website is not compelling and doesn’t do much to attract and engage visitors.

6. Mad Dog Morgan’s – https://maddogmorgans.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • This homepage matches back to the branding, but the bad thing is that you can’t tell what this business offers right off the bat. The hero image is nothing more than the logo.
  • Probably the most useful feature on this site is the events calendar, but there’s not much information there besides the dates themselves. Also, the MDM Mobile link is throwing us off. Is this a mobile site? Or is that what they call their food truck? Either way, the page is empty so we have no idea what the intention was.
  • It’s not organized very strategically, either. The call to action on this site is not clear or compelling. This site needs some TLC.
  • A professional photographer would make a world of difference here. Where are the high quality photos of scrumptious looking food? There isn’t a single one.

7. The Cove – http://thecovebrig.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • At first glance, the homepage is nice with an attractive hero image at the top, the logo, and a blurb about the business. There were some strange choices made for the grammar and formatting (the quote) but we may not have noticed if we weren’t analyzing the design itself.
  • The menus are nicely laid out and the designer took time to input the menu details digitally instead of scanning in a paper menu and uploading a pdf like so many others do. (thank God!)
  • The Call To Action “click for specials and events” is very weak. It actually points to an embedded list from the Facebook page. Not so professional in the approach and page layouts.
  • Where is the helpful written content? The biggest mistake this website makes is the lack of information ABOUT the restaurant. There is no About page, no information about dining there or what to expect, or the history of the company- nothing. This is a major oversight for a restaurant in Brigantine NJ, where most potential visitors are seasonal or first-timers in the area.

8. Loza Architecture – http://lozarch.com/

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Ugh, this is a terrible website to look at. Not at all helping the business.
  • We found a wealth of information through the pages of this website. Unfortunately, the organization of the content isn’t user-friendly. It’s easy to get lost, so the bounce rate is probably much higher as a result.
  • Eek, there’s sadly no mobile version of this website. That’s a big no-no.
  • What is the Call To Action? There are no “next steps” for the visitor to take.

9.  C & K Pyatt Photography & Art – http://www.conniepyattphotography.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • The photos on this site are high quality and fast loading. Definitely a plus!
  • Despite the nice big photos on the homepage, there are some poor design decisions that take away from the photos, such as the randomly placed link and the ugly search bar.
  • There are social media links right on the homepage, a good move!
  • The Price Information page is the worst I’ve ever seen. It looks like segments were copy/pasted onto a plain page. No cohesive element, no images, nothing of visual interest. There’s only one type of photo session detailed here. Not good.

10. Keates-Plum Funeral Home – http://www.keatesplum.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Design isn’t as bad as the homemade kind, but it could be even better.
  • The Call To Action is clear and compelling on this website.
  • Where is the helpful written content? These pages are missing the mark.
  • This is a perfect example of how to lose a visitor. The layout and organization of the pages and menu is awful. One of the menu items send you off to another website. Not a strategic layout for this business website.

11. Ralph Paul Busco Law Offices – http://www.briglawyer.com/home.html

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • This website design is a total disgrace to the business, and it’s gotta go- especially for such a business as a law firm. It doesn’t portray professionalism or experience that you’d look for in a white collar industry like legal services.
  • The written content element is important, and this website does a poor job. There’s not much here besides the credentials of the attorney and a mention of his ties to Brigantine NJ.
  • Bad placement and wasted space on every page. There isn’t even a phone number or email address on the contact page. This website looks like it was slapped together just to have SOMETHING online. It hurts the image and identity of this law office and lawyers that work there.

12. Fish Finder Marine – http://fishfinder-charters.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Here’s another website design that probably hurts the company more than it helps. It looks like this site has potential, based on the content and ideas flowing, but the organization of information and the presentation makes it very, very confusing.
  • What’s the call to action here? Is this a charter boat service or a marina offering boat cleaning services, or a fishing tournament site? The information is so scattered.
  • Social proof is such a big deal. With some digging, we found awards and such but it’s not displayed on the homepage in a can’t-miss kind of way, like it should be. There may be testimonials or reviews somewhere else online but we don’t see anything here to make this marina stand out from others in the area.
  • Seemingly, the website owners don’t take time to write and edit these pages.

13. Laguna Grill & Rum Bar – https://www.lagunagrillandrumbar.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Despite the interesting vibe to this business, the design doesn’t match up.
  • Way too much crowding and confusion in terms of the layout. What is the purpose served on this homepage??? You can’t even tell what the business offers. It’s not an effective website design.
  • A professional photographer would make a world of difference here.
  • This seems to be a fairly popular place to eat and enjoy live music. It’s a shame they have such an awful website, but they definitely have some potential.

14. North Point Marina – http://www.northpointmarina.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • We came, we saw, and we left. There is no Call To Action or next steps.
  • This whole site feels generic and totally unoriginal. Probably a self-generated format.
  • From a wording standpoint, someone clearly took their time to write up the content for these web pages.
  • Here’s another example of a website that doesn’t work well on mobile. Not good.

15. JCP Home Remodeling – http://www.jcphomeremodeling.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • So many websites are still not responsive, but at least this one is mobile-friendly.
  • At first, this website design looked promising but we realized it’s just one long page with an index-style navigation bar. The website lacks information. There are general paragraphs about the business but nothing concrete.
  • This website doesn’t have a services page, or in the case of this website design, a services SECTION. We want to see a bulleted list of all services they provide, but we’re left guessing based on visual graphics. Not good.
  • The photos in the gallery are slow-loading and the layout doesn’t draw your eye. It’s easy to skip right over the photo gallery instead of clicking to see what it is.

Worst Examples of Brigantine NJ Website Design

Choosing the worst websites in a town like this is painful. As a web designer in the Ventnor NJ area, I’ve seen these types of mistakes over and over that are wreaking havoc on these businesses and killing their SERP ranking. Some of these websites are so terrible that I’m assuming they came free and ready-made with a domain purchase. The mistakes are numerous and easy to avoid if you’re a web designer who know’s what you’re doing.

16. Goochie Brothers – http://www.goochiebrothers.com/index.html

  • Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F
  • This website design is a total disgrace to the business, and it’s gotta go. Visually, functionality-wise, and branding wise- everything. It’s a mess.
  • Where is the helpful written content? These pages are missing the mark.
  • This website is missing a chance at developing leads, with no call to action!
  • The only thing that might have saved this website, the online ordering function, is not even working. This whole thing needs to be revamped if they want to develop and leads and attract new customers who are searching online for food in Brig.

17. Crab Shack Seafood Market – http://roccotaco419.wixsite.com/crabshackbrigantine

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • Why do so many businesses settle for these God awful template designs? This one still has placeholder text here and there. Whoever set this up did not do a thorough job.
  • The entire bottom half of this homepage is blank white space. Something didn’t load. It’s a waste of space and really bad presentation.
  • These photos suck. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. The photos need to go.
  • Why is there virtually no way of contacting this company? Not acceptable. There’s a phone number and that’s it. Nothing compelling about this website anyway, so there’s probably not a ton of interested visitors trying to reach out.

18. Jolly Roger Marina – http://www.jollyrogersurf.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • What a dark and archaic looking website design this company is using. It doesn’t feel fun and refreshing like a boating and fishing experience is supposed to feel. It’s quite the opposite.
  • This site lacks most of the modern elements we’ve grown to expect, and the boring icons and tiny white font does nothing to draw visitors in to learn more.
  • Did you see a call to action on this site and felt compelled? Neither did we.
  • Linking out to other industry-related sites would boost this site’s trust score.

19. Pirates Den – http://www.thepiratesden.net

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • The images are dreadful on this website. Not a good use of visual content. Food photography is an art, there’s no doubt about it. Don’t cheat yourself out of professional photography if your goal is to attract hungry customers.
  • Here’s yet another example of a website that lacks high quality written content.
  • This lacks depth, from the pages themselves to the navigation bar. Besides finding a menu, there’s nothing useful on this website for this business or visitors.
  • Do these guys know that Google penalizes sites that aren’t mobile friendly?

20. Root Beer Barrell – http://www.rbbsurf.com

Brigantine NJ Website Design Grade F

  • What a cool company and name! There was such an opportunity to do something creative here but this website doesn’t serve the business well at all. Branding is a mess, and there are unforgivable rookie mistakes made.
  • To start, the font used on the buttons is so illegible, the web designer didn’t even realize that “contact us” is spelled incorrectly. It’s such a poor choice of font for the nav bars and would have been better maybe as a header as some other place.
  • These pages takes so long to load! It’s obvious the graphic elements were not saved for web or web optimized for faster uploads.
  • Some of these pages are incomplete (unless they’re still loading 40 seconds later) and the site looks unfinished overall. It’s a shame, because this looks like a really cool company and we’d like to see a stellar website to represent it. But for now, it’s deserves the F grade we’re giving it.

Website Designers in Brigantine New Jersey

DotCom Global Media

http://www.dotcomglobalmedia.com/

DotCom has roughly 20 full-time employees and is a full-service website design and internet marketing agency.  They have been in business since 1995.  DotCom works with dozens of clients in Somers Point and the surrounding area.  Of particular note is their national and international client list working with companies like Nike, Disney, and the New York Yankees just to name a few.  They have won numerous awards and have a stellar reputation.  In October 2016, the founder was honored to be selected to speak at the #1 rated small business conference in the U.S. (Forbes and Inc. Magazine).  This is clearly the top website design company in the entire region.

Evolve Studios

www.evolvestudios.com/

Evolve appears to be a small collection of independent contractors and service providers.  It appears they’ve been in business for over 10 years and they serve mostly local clients.  Their work is solid.

JSE Design Studio

http://www.new-jersey-webdesign.net/

JSE has been creating poor to mediocre websites for a painfully long time.  Frankly, we are surprised they still make websites.  They are mostly known for their Point-Of-Sale systems and other types of technical support -which we understand is much better than their website design.

Townsquare Media

http://www.townsquaremedia.com

Townsquare Media is well positioned thanks to their affiliation with the local radio industry. While the name is familiar with businesses in South Jersey, Townsquare Media is more infamous than famous. Their website designs are stock layouts and the SEO and digital marketing services they offer seem to lack a customized strategic approach. We have only heard bad things about this web design/marketing company. You could get the same quality for much less money with those starter packages that come cheap with a domain name purchase.

While there is no shortage of business activity in Brigantine NJ, companies actively operating in this town are lacking in the area of effective web presence. This is a missed opportunity both for businesses and for potential customers. Most Brigantine NJ websites are poorly designed, and worse- they’re virtually impossible to find through online search.

To up your chances for success, get your Brigantine NJ website design set up the right way on the right platform, with an approach that draws targeted traffic. A beautiful website that’s supported with smart tools and a digital marketing strategy will drastically help your Brigantine -based business to thrive.
