Some of these websites are so bad that I’m hoping they came free and ready-made with a domain purchase. The mistakes are numerous and they should be called out.

I’m just going to say it: Presenting your written content in a tiny italicized font on the Home Page is one way of guaranteeing that no one will ever read it. This completely defeats the purpose. Moreover, the links on this site are confusing, with highlighted blue print in several places that look like links, but aren’t really links after all.

2. http://capebookkeeping.com/
Mind, in some other towns, this particular website might rank somewhere in the middle of good and bad. It does its main job of letting the viewer know what the business is. But Cape May is a bustling city with plenty of competition, and a boring, unimaginative, information-empty website like this one just isn’t going to cut it. The whole thing is generic and cliché.

You have to scroll down through several paragraphs of poorly written content before you see tiny photos of the actual bedrooms. The Rates-and-Policies Page look like a mom-and-pop B&B set-up, not a full-blown hotel. It may have changed lately, but when I clicked on the Recent News tab, a blank page came up.

The Online Reservations page takes you to a different website with an uninviting layout. When I tried it out, it told me: “Sorry, the system shows no availability for your arrival date and length of stay. Please select different dates or if your travel dates are fixed, call/email us directly to fulfill your travel requirements… Click Here to place yourself on the wait list in case of cancellation.”  What do you think the chances are of a visitor simply finding another hotel?
